FCPR attends 20th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride

The one thing I love about working in public relations is that you get to do something different everyday. You have the opportunity to brainstorm new ideas, meet new people and take on new adventures.

Last week, Heather, Carolyn and I headed out to Carlsbad, California to manage the PR for the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. This is no ordinary motorcycle Ride – it involves more than 200 people, 125 motorcycles, several celebrities and benefits one incredible cause.

You may remember us talking about the Ride last spring, but this year the route was a little different. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary, the Ride chose to travel completely ocean-to-ocean for the first time. In eight days, we traveled from Carlsbad, Calif. to Daytona Beach, Fla. promoting the Ride along the way in local stops and keeping fans up to speed with real-time Ride updates through social media.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it – it’s a lot of work, but it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The best part? We’re able to use our (PR) talents to giveback. All of the efforts from the Ride benefit Victory Junction, a camp created by the Petty family to enrich the lives of children with chronic illnesses.

Take a look at a few photos from this year’s trip, and be sure to check out our work on the Ride’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/kpcharityride.
